:::Consciousness
of
Habits:::
Nurit Bar-Shai &
Rami Maymon
Splendidly timed
with the first notes of When I Fall
in Love, two cakes are
set on the table; a black one, and a white one, accentuating the
minimalist aesthetic of the now almost bare patterned tablecloth. Our
tabletop begins to feel more and more as a
painting, framed by the floor. This video, documenting the
documentation
of the consumption of a meal, could have easily taken an ugly or
depressing tone, with commentaries on gluttony and excess, or on the
transient nature of life (as a sort of modern-day vanite). Rather, the
two artists chose to focus on beauty—in all forms—and its spontaneous
occurrence. And nowhere is this video work more delightful as when the
sounds of the romance fantasy wrap the couple while they enjoys
their dessert on the newly created beautiful backdrop—our screen.
