:::Consciousness
of
Habits:::
Nurit Bar-Shai &
Rami Maymon
If up until now we were observing the scene like a
curious
child sheltered behind a crack-opened door, as the couple lights up a
cigarette, someone has just
noticed us. As they, for the first time (as there is no dialog), raise
their heads to acknowledge each other, we immediately become aware of
our own gaze—this has become a three-dimensional triangle. As
they are no longer looking down, absorbed in their plates, we suddenly
also become strongly aware
of the verticality, the projection, and its correlation with the traced
projection—in fact, the watcher (filming) and the watched (tracing)
have been engaged in
the very same activity—turning this life occurrence into a picture. As
if to
echo that very same idea, at that moment the couple hands the waiter a
camera. They hold hands as, for a second, the flash dramatically washes
the painted tablecloth in a touch of much-deserved limelight.
